My State Farm journey began in 2009 as an office manager in West Virginia. After years of hands-on experience, I opened my own agency in 2022. Following a brief relocation, I was excited to bring our office back home to Vinton on October 1, 2025. Being present in the office daily allows me to stay closely involved with our customers and ensure every situation is handled with care and experience.

We help customers with essential coverage like auto insurance to keep you protected on the road, and home insurance to safeguard your dwelling and belongings. In addition, we offer renters, condo, business, and life insurance, along with financial services. We are always happy to provide a personalized quote and compare your current coverage.

Our office is conveniently located in Vinton, Virginia, on the corner of East Washington Avenue and North Poplar Street, directly across from Lotz Funeral Home. You will find us near familiar local landmarks such as Vinton Baptist Church, Truist Bank, and Macado’s.

We proudly serve Vinton, Roanoke County, Bedford County, Stewartsville, Hardy, Bonsack, Montvale, Goodview, and Blue Ridge. I am also licensed to support customers throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Outside of the office, I enjoy reading, thrifting, and spending time with my husband, Larry. We live near Smith Mountain Lake, where we love boating, fishing, and relaxing on the water. We are also big foodies and enjoy trying new cuisines whenever we can. Community involvement is an important part of who we are. I am proud to serve as an ambassador for the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, and our team enjoys staying active locally. You may see us handing out popcorn at town parades, participating in business trick-or-treats and Easter egg hunts, sponsoring Angel Tree children each year, or serving as a convenient drop-off location for nonprofit collections.

Since opening in 2022, our primary office has been recognized with local insurance agency awards each year. At the Susan Balderson State Farm Insurance office, our philosophy is simple: be helpful, be honest, and be there when it matters. You will often find me in the office, and many visitors are greeted by Huk, our friendly office dog and unofficial mascot.
